Happy St. Patrick's Day! Sam's first tip:
Cut index cards into different sizes and store them under the Intel Reader in the carrying case. With index cards, you can cover text that you don’t want to capture, like photo captions, side channels, blurbs and more. Hope this helps!
I asked my colleague, Steve, about his tips and tricks for capturing text with the Intel Reader. Here is what he shared:
The Intel Reader uses a high resolution camera to capture images. Here are some tips that can help you achieve better results taking pictures of text:
1) Hold the camera steady until you hear the camera shutter tone indicating the image capture has completed. Try holding the Intel Reader at eye level, resting your elbows on the table to get a steady image.
2) Cover up unnecessary text (with a manila folder or 3x5 card) that may give undesired results such as headers, footers, and captions. The Reader will read ALL text that is captured – including stray documents next to the page you want to read. Cover up or remove stray documents away from the camera. The Intel Reader reads columns top to bottom. If you want to read across the columns, cover the entire document, exposing and capturing one row at a time.
3) Reduce page glare from bright lights by avoiding bright overhead lights. Oftentimes you can eliminate page glare by moving your workspace just a few feet away from the light source or moving your body to block the light. Press the “View Toggle,” button on the Intel Reader to review the actual image you took. You may find that a foreign object (such as a finger or shoulder strap) is blocking the camera view.
4) Fill as much of the display as possible with the text you are capturing. This is especially helpful when taking images of very small print. Hold the Reader as high as the document is wide/tall . You can increase the effective camera resolution by rotating the page to landscape view. The Intel Reader can read a text that is rotated sideways or upside down.
